You are always meditating, although you may not be aware of your meditation. Meditation is the "sadhana" or practice of your life.
There are various forms and approaches to meditation, such as ajapa (single pointed focus), transcendental (TM) and mindfulness, for example. All religions have rituals of meditation. There are many techniques, such as mantra (sound), yantra (symbols), guided visualization, trakata (candle gazing), havan and agni hotra (fire meditations) and many more that lead us into a meditative state. When practiced, they can reveal deep and profound insights and awareness around the habitual patterns of thought, behavior and action that block us from what we truly desire. Meditation gives us the tools and the opportunity to experience unconditional love of self and to express compassion for others.

"My studies in India focused on the mental and emotional aspects of yoga more than the physical activity of the body. I find meditation fascinating. It takes me on a journey into the deep realms of my inner space, and just like a journey into outer space, it is a trip to the unknown where I never know what I might discover!"
